Chisholm Backflow Prevention Course

Chisholm Institute, Frankston, Victoria, Australia will soon be running a backflow prevention device testers course.


This provides a convenient location for apprentices and plumbers particularly in the Mornington Peninsula area to achieve the additional water supply qualification.
There will be some additional reference material above the existing BCPWT4002A Learning Resource and AS2845.

Chisholm welcomes any relevant information from manufacturers and suppliers to assist students ·

Chisholm seeks to achieve the best learning outcomes in this program, and we welcome any suggestions to achieve that.

Some basic information:

Chisholm Backflow Prevention Course.
Specialised licence class of Plumbing (Backflow Prevention) work
Only a person who is licensed in the specialized class of Plumbing (Backflow Prevention) may legally carry out the inspection, maintenance, commissioning, testing, alteration or repair of a registered or testable backflow prevention device that must be installed where the backflow hazard risk rating is medium or high

The Chisholm Backflow Prevention Course is designed for licensed plumbers to achieve the competencies required to test, commission and maintain backflow prevention devices in water services. It covers hazard assessment, preparation for work, safe work practices, identification of testing and commissioning procedures, the physical testing and commissioning of devices, the maintenance of devices and documentation.
Plumbing Industry Commission examiners conduct an assessment of applicants at the conclusion of each course.

What experience/qualifications do I need before I can be licensed in this specialised class?

For your application to proceed, you will need to demonstrate that:
· You hold a current licence in the class of Plumbing (Water Supply), OR
· You are eligible to hold a licence in the class of plumbing (Water Supply), OR
· You are currently undertaking a plumbing and gasfitting apprenticeship, and have passed the Stage 2 Water Supply examination / assessment. If you are an apprentice you are not entitled to be issued with a licence in Plumbing (Backflow Prevention) work at this stage. The Commission will note the result of your Backflow Prevention training and assessment. If you have been successful, and you subsequently become licensed in the class of Plumbing (Water Supply), you will be issued with a licence in the specialised class of Plumbing (Backflow Prevention) at the same time.

2007 Courses
· Course 1 will be delivered over 3 days: 28/9, 4/10, 5/10 - 8.00 am to 4.30 pm.
· Course 2 will be delivered over 3 days: 23/11, 29/11, 30/11 - 8.00 am to 4.30 pm.
